My Dogs Are (Not So) Partners in Crime

A couple of weeks ago I did a photo book post on Pebbles the (not so) Diva and was in the process of making one of both dogs to send to the person who we got them from. I used Shutterfly to make both books. In my experience Shutterfly produces high quality customized photo projects. Shipping is hit or miss with them, but this particular book was printed and on my doorstep within four days of placing my order! Holy smokes that was fast.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few pages with you because *surprise* I'm one of those obsessed dogmoms. Some pictures may look familiar from my past posts but most (especially the ones of Macho) are new (old?) material from before I had this blog. You can click any of the pictures to enlarge it.

Not really "partners." Macho is annoyed by her 95% of the time.

Once upon a time when I could hold him like a football... now he's a fatso beefy

That sleeping one is my favorite. Lazy dogs deserve props.

Enter Pebbles. Life gets interesting.

Macho introduces his sister to the rest of the (corgi) world

I think these are ALL the photos I have of them being nice to each other. Everything else is of them wrestling.

This is the first time they ever sat by each other without trying to eat one another
I used a coupon to get this photo book for free, but Shutterfly always has sales going on. Sometimes I feel like their sale prices should be their regular prices already. If you're interested in making your own photo book or any customized photo project (they've got TONS of stuff to choose from) I highly suggest checking them out. They've currently got their sale on sale (say WHAT?) so you can get an extra 20% off their already-reduced sale prices of up to 50% off. Just use code TWENTY to get the extra 20%. But hurry because this sale ends Wednesday, 10/1!

Memebox Special #37 Wake Up Makeup Review

So Memebox does this thing where you become slightly interested in K-beauty while blog surfing so you decide to finally give in to the hype and pick up ONE (and only one) box "just to see what it's all about." Then some kind of weird magic happens and you just. can't. stop. buying Memeboxes. I was doing good for a while and went a whole month without buying any. Then the Memegods got mad and coaxed me into buying 5 in two weeks. If you're one of the curious folk looking for an addiction, look no further...

What: Memebox is not a recurring subscription box. Rather it is a themed one-time purchase box filled with beauty products from Korea. There are several types of boxes: Memebox, Superbox, and Luckybox to name a few.
When: New boxes come out quite often, about every week or so.
Cost: $15 - $39, depending on the type of box + $6.99 shipping (from Korea)

The Wake Up Makeup box is sold out now but was selling for $23 + $6.99 shipping. I think I used a blogger code for this one to get $5 off. My advice is always use a discount code when getting a Memebox (they are always coming out with new ones). If not, you'll wonder where all your money went a lot quicker.
I was pretty darn thrilled when I saw how much stuff was in this box. All Wake Up Makeup boxes came with a Free Gift so I'm not sure why they didn't just include it as part of the box. Maybe because it was the only non-makeup item? Oh well, but it's a great free gift. More on that later.

Cheek Room Two Color Lip Gloss - Wine & Nude Peach (Value: $12)
I'm not gonna lie, when I first took this out of the box I immediately thought of the litmus milk test for differentiation of bacteria. I always thought it was a pretty test. Right. Anyway. I never understood two-toned lip glosses. I still don't. According to the info card you use the doe foot to "apply to lips and spread it well. Wait 30 seconds after first application and apply gloss on top for a super glossy effect." It was glossy after the first swipe and the second one just added more color. It comes out as a mixture of the two halves (duh) and I just kinda mixed them together because I wasn't sure what else to do and got a sort of fucshia color:
Cheek Room lip gloss in Wine & Nude Peach
There was a questionable crack in the bottom half that made me think of curdled milk, but it disappeared after the first use and doesn't bother me anymore because outta sight, outta mind. I can totally see myself messing up the layers. I already added pink streaks to the bottom half after just one use.

Shara Shara Glitter Pearl Powder - Bronze Gold (Value: $7)
Sorry I don't have a picture of the actual thing for you. I can't open the box without ripping it to shreds and I'm not planning on keeping this, so you just get this corset-looking thing. This is a bronze-gold body glitter (more gold-gold based on the info card picture) that can also be used as a highlighter. Not totally sure I'd want gold glitter highlighter on my face. But that's just me, I'm not so much the adventurous makeup type.

Bbia Downy Cheek - Downy Peach (Value: $12)
You could receive one of two colors of this cream blush: downy pink or downy peach. I got the peach, which is still pretty pink, just not as much as the actual pink. It's more like a coral I guess. I'm not a huge fan of cream blushes, mostly because I end up patting off all my concealer when I apply the blush and all my dark spots say Hello! The other thing I don't care for is the oiliness, and this one is no exception. Color-wise though, I like this. I normally don't go for coral, but this blush is so subtle that I think it works. The swatch below is after four swipes with my finger.
Bbia Down Cheek in Downy Peach
Here's what it can look like. I don't really want to to look like a doll so I'll be cutting this amount in half. Or thirds. But it is a very nice rosy color, not too bright or off the wall.

It's Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eye Liner - Black/Purple + Liner Brush (Eyeliner Value: $13)
When I first saw that this was a black/purple combo eye liner I cowered in fear. It's purple again! This color's been haunting me all summer and I can't pull off purple so I've been avoiding it like the plague.
After staring at it for a good five minutes I read the Memecard how-to. "Wear alone for an ultra-reflective, high-shine finish without stickiness, or apply over or under your favorite lip products." Wait. Since when do eyeliners go on your lips? *giggle giggle* Okay, since I got a laugh out of it and because the packaging is so cute, I'll give this a chance. Besides, the purple part is really tiny and if I don't like it I just won't use it. Besides, it came with a liner brush extra so how can I say no?
It's weird. The black picks up fine, but I had the hardest time picking up the purple. The purple is kinda shimmery but I don't see why that should make it so hard to stick to the brush? I did 10 passes over the purple just to get the swatch below. The gel globs up on the brush and comes off in globs too. Not liking this so far. At least I can use the black.
It's Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eye Liner in Purple & Black
Assuming I can get the purple to work properly, this is how they can be applied together to "create a younger-looking, lovelier effect on your eyes":

Royal Nature The Original Soothing Blemish Balm SPF30 PA++ (Value: $43)
Calendula, chamomile, cypress, portulaca, and a special "Angel's Tear" complex make for a BB cream that will relieve and brighten skin. I generally don't care for BB creams because they make my face sticky and gray. I think I'm gonna wait till I see more reviews before I decide to unseal this tube. I wonder what's in the Angel's Tear complex? Something OMG worthy like snail or grub extracts?

Shara Shara Creamy Dual Auto Eye Stick - Holly Pink Brown (Value: $9)
Those in favor of consolidating makeup tools may want to take a look at this stick. It's an eyeshadow + eyeliner in one.
It's not great quality stuff but it's something fun. Both ends are retractable and have quite a bit of product. Practically the whole white part on both ends is filled with product.
The liner end reminds me of those skinny waxy shiny almost-crayons that I used to play with as a kid. Okay I know that's not a very good description but I don't know how to describe them, even though I can picture it in my head clearly. So clearly. It's not a very dark brown and it will easily wipe clean so maybe I'll use this end as a crayon later. The eye shadow end is kind of fun. I'd call this a shimmer rather than a shadow though. I've never worn pinky pink shadow before, especially not shimmery pink, but I think this still looks fun. One swipe will give you the swatch you see below. I can use this. If not on my eyelids then as another body shimmer. Or something. Basically I'm keeping this more for fun than for function. Maybe I'll add it to my writing/decorating supplies.
This is what it can look like but I've got these hooded monolids that don't hide anything so what you'll see with my eyes closed is exactly what you'll see with my eyes open and that's BAM! blinding shimmer.

Cellbydate The Real Galacto Zero Essence (Approx value: $14)
This was the free gift in the Wake Up Makeup box and the only non-makeup item. This is a large bottle (100ml) of essence containing 95% galactomyces ferment. That's about all the information we get because it's not included on the info card. Galactomyces has a 7-fold effect on skin:
Here's what went into making this bottle of wonders. I recognize galactomyces yeast (though that's not what yeast cells look like) and flowers. Any idea on what the rest is?
I like pictures and I thought this looked fun. I believe it's a warning not to store the open bottle in elevated temperatures. Because is that a petri dish with yeast colonies growing on it? Anyhow, it's not good for you. Okay, maybe "fun" is the wrong word. I'm excited to try this but I already have so many essences open I just can't yet. :(

I didn't expect this to be such a fun Memebox. It was worth $96 thanks to the BB cream making up half of that value. And that's not including the essence or liner brush! I thought it had a lot of pinkish makeup in it (lip gloss, blush, eye shimmer), but I guess that's better than the orangey things they tend to give out. I think the only thing I'll be giving up is the glitter powder, so overall it was a good box. I probably won't purchase another make up box for a while though, I just have way more makeup than I'll be able to use.

If you picked up this box what did you think of it? I expect there to be lots of color variations since most of the items can be one of several colors.

And last but not least, COUPON CODES!!

PetBox Snack Review - September 2014

This is our second PetBox snack box in a 3-month sub we got from a super PetBox deal I took advantage of a while back.

What: PetBox is a subscription box for cats & dogs filled with healthy treat, toy, and hygiene items. Boxes are curated according to the size of your pet and come in four box sizes of increasing item count. Multiple pet boxes are now available as well! This review is for the Snack box (smallest size) for a medium dog.
When: Ships monthly on your sign up date
Cost: Snack: $7.95-$9.95; Deluxe: $14.95-$19.95; Premium: $29.95-$39.95; Multiple Pet: $49.95-$59.95 per month depending on the length of your subscription

I actually started two subscriptions using the above deal. For the second I also used the code SNACK to bring the cost down further (not sure if this code still works). The idea was to get one medium and one small box for Macho and Pebbles, so I adjusted the specs on my dashboard. But so far they've only sent me medium boxes for both dogs. The snack box is PetBox's newest addition so maybe there's only one size so far...?

These are soft clover-shaped treats that smell quite fishy but are supposed to promote a healthy skin and coat in dogs. Each treat contains omega-3 from algae and whole eggs. I'm not sure what they're supposed to taste like but this is one treat I sure as hell am not going to try, even if I am able pronounce all the ingredients. But the dogs love em so I'm happy. As long as I wash my hands after touching these.
This is how you train a salsa dog
Aussie Naturals Buffalo Ear (Value: $1.99)
We got this ear in our Petbox/iHeartRadio box and Macho finished it in under 10 minutes. He's NEVER finished a large rawhide that quickly. Since we got two boxes now there are two of these so I don't have to make them jan-ken-po over it. I'm pretty sure Pebbles will steal Macho's though. She's a real bitch like that.

Evanger's Whitefish & Sweet Potato Dog Food (Sample value: $0.60)
This is another item we got in our PetBox/iHeartRadio box, but this is a different flavor. The puppies went stupid crazy over this food. Why do they always like the stink ones? You can really smell the fish in here. These are tiny kibbles so it's perfect for tiny dogs. I remember when we first got Pebbles and she refused to eat anything bigger than the size of a fingernail. Now she eats everything. I'm talking flower pots, soda cans, geckos. The works. Yesterday she tried to eat our lawn mower. At least Macho has the brains to observe things bigger than him before attacking them. Nevermind, I take that back. He eats the vacuum. I hope this fish helps with their cognition, lord knows they need it. There was also a coupon for $3 off our next bag of Evanger's food. Sadly, none of the stores next to me sell this brand and I'm not about to mail order my dog's food and pay exorbitant shipping fees. Sorry.
Evanger's Whitefish & Sweet Potato formula dog food

I can't help but notice the similarities between this and the iHeartRadio collaboration box. One large bag of treats, one chew, and one dog food sample (the iHeartRadio box also had a smaller treat sample). At least these are all things the bozos will gladly eat so I'm okay with it. The box had a little more than $11 worth of dog products, which is slightly more than the month-to-month cost. HOWEVER, if you take advantage of the same 3-for-1 deal that I used, then you'll get three months for the price of one! (FYI you will be charged $3.xx/month for three months then the subscription will auto-renew at the regular 3-month rate).

If you want to start your own PetBox subscription with some of the bigger boxes then sign up here and choose the type and length of plan you want (cat lovers: remember they have cat subscriptions too!).

Ipsy Review - September 2014

*Gasp* Could it be true? Has Ipsy actually beat Birchbox to my mailbox this month?! Did it really "only" take 15 days to get here? What's Ipsy?

What: Ipsy Glam Bags contain 4-6 deluxe samples and full sized beauty products in an exclusive makeup bag.
When: Glam Bags ship monthly on the 10th
Cost: $10/month
Fun Extras: You can review your products each month to earn ipsyPoints, which can be redeemed for monthly bonus items.

I don't like pink. Well, I thought I didn't until I found myself buying tons of pink lip glosses and pink nail polish. What the heck? Since my makeup preferences have betrayed me lately, I actually wasn't dismayed at receiving a pink lip gloss in my Ipsy bag. When I swatched it I thought it'd be too bright but it was actually more like a nudey pink when I put it on. Kind of sticky but it's not too bad. Could be worse.
Cailyn Art Touch Lip Gloss

Be A Bombshell Smooth Criminal Powder (Full size value: $12.00)
I read somewhere that you can make your own finishing powder by mixing cornstarch with a bit of foundation for color. This looks pretty much like the cornstarch part. Or silica, to be exact. I haven't opened it yet because I haven't decided if I want to keep it or not. I still have two pots of finishing powders to go through so I'll probably pass this along.
Oh, and if you were wondering, yes I did make my own cornstarch powder once. It worked okay but it was waaay too fine and the cornstarch would fly all over the place and make me sneeze every time I opened it. Of course I could've just held my breath, but I kinda like oxygen.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Duo - Redgy (Full size approx value: $15.00)
I've actually been eyeing this in Target every time I pass by the nail polishes. Of course I would've preferred a PINK (Pretty Piggy was one of the choices), but beggars can't be choosers and I'm okay with the red. Supposedly with this you can get gelish-looking nails without a UV lamp and it'll last 14 days and be easy to remove. Of course I was really excited to try this. It's got the weird flat brush you find in some Sally Hansen bottles but I think it grew on me and I like it now. The color applies very evenly and the formula is perfect - no gooping, no streaking. You can even get decent coverage in a single coat. The Miracle Gel Top Coat is supposed to "activate curing" somehow; unfortunately, my brush was cracked and some bristles were trying to escape.
Oh well, at least most of them are intact. I went ahead and tried to brush on the top coat..
...then this happened. *sad face*
Looks like I'll have to wait a while to see if the Miracle Gel duo really works. Well at least the first half looks pretty good.

I've never used a hair mask before and I'm kinda excited to try this. I would've loved to get this when my hair was a mile long and color treated and crazy dry and brittle at the ends. Now it's not so bad but could still use a bit of conditioning. This mask has the consistency of face cream and smells so refreshing :)

I almost immediately threw this in the swap pile because the pencil tip looked like another one of those hard ones that tug without much color payoff. But I just threw out a brown pencil for that very reason and currently have no browns, so I thought I'd give this a try. Good thing I did because it glides really smoothly with barely any pressure. The texture's not too creamy but that's fine with me. The only thing is it doesn't have great staying power. Oh well I'll keep it anyway, it's still better than my last one.
Pacifica eye pencil

Overall a great bag! It had over a $53 value with a good variety of items spanning makeup, nails, and hair. I'll be keeping everything except the finishing powder since I already have a lot. I'm waiting to hear back from Ipsy care about the Miracle Gel top coat, but I wouldn't hold my breath. At least it came with a $2.00 coupon for another bottle.

If you'd like a chance to try makeup you never would've seen yourself spending $$$ on otherwise, use my link to sign up for an account. You almost always get an insanely high valued bag without the hefty price tag. There's a waitlist for Glam Bags, but you can skip the wait by posting to Facebook and having a friend subscribe from your link.
