Memebox Princess Edition #1 Snow White Review

I love surprises as long as it doesn't involve anyone throwing a roach at my face or coming home to my dog sitting next to a pile of fresh steaming poo on the carpet. But coming home to a familiar pink box on my doorstep is definitely a welcome treat. I didn't receive a tracking number or anything so it was totally unexpected. Wanna know what makes this surprise doubly awesome? According to the shipping label this box left Korea on the 27th (technically the 26th in my timezone) and arrived at my house on the 28th. WOWWWWW thanks, UPS! The fact that it reached me on Black Friday made it triply awesome because I felt like I scored the ultimate steal.

So what pink box is this? MEMEBOX!! You know, that cute pink box from Korea that's persuading women EVERYWHERE that we just NEED every single one that comes out and if we don't get it we're gonna spend the rest of our days in regret. I was never into skin care until I heard about Memebox and now I'm in addiction denial. My bf and I are always bickering over lack of drawer space and me not using 3/4 of the stuff I get (which is taking up said drawer space). They're in queue for Pete's sake!

What: Memebox is not a recurring subscription box. It's a one-time-purchase box filled with beauty products from Korea. There are several types of boxes: Memebox, Superbox, and Luckybox to name a few.
When: Lately Memebox seems to have paused their box releases and is focusing more on promoting their very own brand new XO Memebox line. Go check it out!
Cost: $15 - $39, depending on the type of box + $6.99 shipping (from Korea)

The box that I was sent for review is Princess Edition #1: Snow White (whitening/brightening) which sold for $29+shipping and is now sold out. This one was released along with two other Princess boxes - #2 Sleeping Beauty (overnight treatments) and #3 Rapunzel (hair). Of the three, I was most interested in the Snow White box because I'd love to even out my skin tone and get rid of ugly dark spots so I was stoked to receive this one. Here's the Memebox description of this box:
"Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who's the fairest of them all? You, with the Snow White Box, of course!
The cooler months spell for the perfect time to brighten up skin, even out uneven complexions, and target pesky dark spots! Whatever shade of the rainbow your skin color is, optimize your skin's radiance and clarity for luminous, glowing skin.
Now that summer is coming to its end, lay off the bakin' and pull out our ultra-brightening and super potent Snow White Box! Discover Princess Snow White's ultimate secret to beautifully bright skin that made her a beauty legend!"

Ipsenature 5 Seeds Apple Water Brightening Scrub (80ml full size value: $26) - According to the Memecard this facial scrub is made from apple water, apricot, raspberry, walnut, rice, and corn seed powders, so I expected this to smell like fruits and/or grains.
But no. It smells like Noxzema. I'm not saying that's a turn off, but it was just totally unexpected. It has a wet sand texture and is pretty abrasive so I wouldn't use this if you have really sensitive skin prone to redness. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the scrub part is actually the seeds from the fruits and grains so basically you're scrubbing your face with strawberry seeds and whatnot. I personally love abrasive scrubs and look forward to using them because they seem to work so much better than the gentle microdermabrasion/microbead stuff. It could just be psychological but whatever, I'm happy believing the bigger the grit, the better the exfoliatishh*t. Sorry, I couldn't think of a rhyming scrubbing word. I do love this, just not the smell. But it's not like I inhale much when using scrubs anyway because sucking in scrub beads really, really sucks. I felt this made my face feel clean and renewed. Probably because there's no freakin' way any dead skin hung on after all that abrasion.
Here's what the scrub looks like in horrible lighting
Faceflux Anti-Wrinkle Revitalizing Cream (30g full size value: $38) - This is an anti-aging cream enriched with ceramide, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, portulaca, and lemon verbena for moisturizing and damage repair. It's times when I find diagrams like these that I really wish I knew how to read Korean, but I think the gist of this is that this wonder cream is packed with proteins that moisturize and protect your skin from environmental stresses, i.e. it's full of humectants and antioxidants.
This cream has no scent and sinks in quickly so there's no gross sticky or greasy feeling. But it absorbs so quickly that it doesn't spread very well so I had to use a bit more than I'd like just to get even coverage on my face. This is one pricey cream so I really hope it's magical.

original raw First Essence - Red Essence (110ml full size value: $26) - If you're a fan of consolidating your skincare routine you may want to look into this one. This is a toner, essence, and lotion all rolled into one. I used to be all for smashing everything into one holy grail product but I haven't been able to find one that really does it all, so instead I succumbed to using 10 different ones, each with its own little purpose. This essence's(/toner/lotion) key ingredient is dragon's blood which is primarily known for its wound-healing properties but is often used in cosmetics as an antioxidant.
The bubbles, the bubbles!
This looks like a hair gel from the outside complete with bubbles but oozes out with a slightly thinner consistency than you'd expect. My favorite part about it is that it pats in instantly and is not sticky at all. If you can get past the men's aftershave scent then this is a nice one to add to your routine.

Daltokki Whitening Essence (100ml full size value: $35) - Okay, does anybody else besides me think that rabbit lady picture edges on creepy? I get that they're trying to compare its whitening effects to a white bunny and all, but Wow. This is a whitening mix-in that you can add to your moisturizer, sunblock, or foundation/BB cream for a brighter complexion. It has a pale pink color (the color and consistency actually resembles that of Calamine lotion) and smells faintly of sunscreen so maybe it's got some SPF in it too? This elixir allegedly has "instant & continuous whitening" properties so supposedly you'll see a difference in a single use. I doubted that claim until I used it. Holy bedsheets, can you say Pastyville? Well the Memecard does warn that all you need is a single drop but the lotion was so thin that about 5 drops fell into my moisturizer. Imagine applying watered-down sunscreen that refuses to sink in. That's how I felt with this. I think if you're trying to achieve the porcelain skin look then this might work for you once you master the art of blending it in, but I personally prefer a bit of a tan so this was totally not for me. Even if I only used one drop per the instructions I'm still 97% sure I would not like the amount of whitening I saw. Plus with the slightest bit of moisture the whiteness started melting off so my face just looked pale and streaky.

Nella Fantasia Oneday Whitener (120ml full size value: $29) - Do you believe in magic? Because if you do, then try this baby out. This is a "magically whitening body lotion that instantly moisturizes and brightens up" dry and darkened skin. It's also waterproof and sweatproof so you don't have to keep reapplying it.
There are tiny red flecks in here and I have no idea what they are because there's nothing red in the key ingredients (unless it's from that cherry blossom-looking plant):

Supposedly it's non-sticky but I beg to differ. Maybe if you only use a dab (which is probably all you really need because a little goes a long way with this lotion), but anything bigger than a dime size will leave your skin a bit tacky for a few minutes.
See what I mean? A quarter-sized amount is enough to cover your entire hand and probably half of your forearm. I couldn't tell a before vs after difference but as you can see from the picture above it'll be a very subtle change.

Morningtree Revitalizing Whitening Deep Spot (20ml full size value: $34) - Well this is something new. Not the spot treatment itself but the applicator. It reminds me of a water dispenser for a rabbit cage, except there are three ball bearings instead of one.
I guess the purpose of the bearings are to control the amount of liquid coming out of the tube since you really don't need that much for a spot treatment. Plus they also cool the skin during application. This gel targets hyperpigmentation and is suitable for all skin types. A couple of swipes will dispense a thin layer of gel over your skin that can easily be massaged in. The light floral scent is a nice touch too. Memebox pro tip: Throw the tube in the fridge then apply it over puffy eyes to soothe and brighten them up. But keep in mind that this should be a one-person product unless you're totally cool with rubbing something on your face that's been rubbed all over someone else's skin.

While this wasn't my favorite box ever, I still think it was pretty darn good. Memebox did a pretty good job of sticking to the whitening theme. Everything was full-sized and according to Memebox had a $188 value. Wowzers. I'm guessing some, if not all of these items have niacinamide or some sort of whitening agent in them but I don't know for sure since I couldn't find any English ingredient lists. I'll at least continue using the scrub, red essence, and spot treatment, so that alone makes the box entirely worth it to me.

As I mentioned earlier, Memebox seems to have stopped putting out new boxes for a while. Maybe they finally had mercy on our weak souls and empty wallets? I suppose a thanks is in order, though their sales and promos make it hard to keep the would-be-spent-on-Memebox money in our wallets. Although the Snow White box is no longer in stock, they still have some other boxes available. If you decide to purchase one, or make any Memeshop purchase for that matter, I highly suggest using a code to save a few bucks. Here are the December codes:

  1. Lucky you! That scrub sounds amazing! I don't know if I would use it on my face but I'd totally use it on my legs and knees or something like that. Get some good exfoliating on my feet after using of of my foot peeling things... Hmm... Yes, that rabbit thing is the stuff of nightmares, imo. I can't look at it too long, just in case.

    1. HAHAHA, for reals! It's as if those eyes are trying to take over your soul! That scrub would definitely removef foot flakes after using the peels...but then that would also take away from the therapeutic fun of peeling them yourself....!
