Mini Rainbow Honey Mystery Bag Review - July 2016

WhatRainbow Honey Mystery Bag contains cute nail polishes and body care products from RH's upcoming collections. This review is for the Mini bag.
When: Ships at the beginning of each month
Cost: $11(mini) or $22(large) per month . Nail-, Body-, or Soap-only bags also available for $12.50 per month. Free shipping for all subscriptions.

It looks like Rainbow Honey tried something different this month for mini bag subscribers. Instead of the usual two nail polishes and a few body care samples, we got three full size polishes and a cuticle oil extra. Current subscribers were also offered the option of upgrading their mini subscriptions to the Just Nails subscription (three full size nail polishes a month) at no extra charge. I'm torn - I do love their yummy scents (last month's Strawberry Peach Sangria was the best!) but their glitter toppers are sooo pretty.

Boot Cut Jeans Nail Polish - This sexy dark denim lacquer pairs well with your favorite "skinny" jeans, trendy top and fabulous shoes!
Lemonade Parade Glitter Topper - Packed with fizzy lemon yellow, peach and strawberry glitters, this gorgeous glitter topper is the ultimate ode to a classic summer lemonade with a twist!
Wear's the Party Nail Polish - This super cool, "matches with everything" layering polish is accented with a bevy of retro pink, blue and yellow glitters with shimmer, perfect for a summer's night out!

I know I said I love Rainbow Honey for their glitter toppers, but Boot Cut Jeans is my favorite in this bunch. It's the perfect blue for me and my wardrobe. I have about 50 shades of blue jeans and this color will match all of them! Plus one coat is enough for full coverage :) Wear's the Party is also pretty and will match most of my clothes since it's a cool subdued color (about 95% of my wardrobe is comprised of black, blue and gray tops...how boring, huh?). I was surprised that you don't need to do a lot of fishing in the bottle to get the glitters out of this one. I may have a harder time matching Lemonade Parade but since it's a glitter topper it could actually go with almost anything. See what the polishes look like in the next couple of photos:
July's #RHMB-Mini colors from L-R: Boot Cut Jeans, Lemonade Parade, and Wear's the Party
Three coats of Wear's the Party on most nails. Accent nail: one coat of Boot Cut Jeans with Lemonade Parade topper
Mai Tai Cuticle Oil Rollerball - A lush blend of island coconuts, pineapple, orange and rum. There's no nail woe worse than peeling cuticles. They're ugly, painful, and just plain annoying. So make sure you have your cuticle oil nearby! This smells mostly like pina colada but there's a tiny hint of orange thrown in there for good measure.

If you love funky indie nail polishes as much as I do, RH is reasonably-priced, and their soap and body line smells delicious. Their mystery bags are a fun way to introduce yourself to what they have to offer. You can subscribe to that here.

Ipsy Review - July 2016

What: Ipsy Glam Bag contains 5 deluxe samples and full sized beauty products (mostly makeup) in an exclusive makeup bag.
When: Glam Bags ship monthly on the 10th
Cost: $10/month (free shipping)
Fun Extra: You can review your products each month to earn ipsyPoints which can be redeemed for bonus items.

I was pleasantly surprised this month when my glam bag came in about two weeks before expected (it usually arrives the last week of the month; I just haven't gotten around to posting until now). I'm not gonna lie, when I first saw the bag it screamed Christmas at me. I thought those were peppermint candies dotting an iridescent background. Which I actually thought was pretty darn adorable. Then I realized those were umbrellas. Ohhhh. That makes sense. But it's what's on the inside that counts, right? Well let's see...

J. Cat Beauty Perfect Duo Brow Pencil - Dark Brown (0.25g full size value: $4) - Up first is a brow pencil. It has a retractable tip and the formula is buildable so you can add just a touch of color, or a lot if your brows are on the darker side. This pencil also features a little spoolie on the opposite end to keep your eyebrow hairs in check.

...and here's a swatch

Trust Fun Beauty Nail Polish - No Filter (0.57oz full size value: $15) - I love getting nail polishes, and I love that this is a subtle lavender color that's appropriate for work. I'll probably pair this with a gray and make some chic nail art (or try to).

Mellow Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow - Coco (0.10oz full size value: $8) - I'm a big fan of baked eyeshadows. I love that they're pigmented and buildable and shimmery without the fallout. And like mineral shadows, you can wear it dry for a daytime look or wet for more intensity. Coco is a shimmery chocolate color that looks more bronze to me. I normally pass on the bronze stuff since I have so much, but since it's baked shadow I'm gonna hold on to it. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this one!
Mellow eye shadow in Coco: wet (top) and dry (bottom) swatches
Eva NYC Get Glossed! Hair Serum (0.4oz value: $4) - I don't know why, but I always think hair serums smell divine. And that's why I tend to hoard them. But my hair's been behaving lately so I haven't been using them. That can only mean it's time for a haircut. My hair only gets frizzy when it's above mid-back length. Any longer and the weight of it pulls it down flat. Maybe I'll cut my hair just so that my hair gets frizzy and I can use my hair serums and snifff them :D

Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara (2.5ml value: $7) - It's a mascara. Meh. Supposedly these bristles are densely packed to coat every lash and give you added volume. I rarely wear mascara, and I already have my favorite one for when I do so I have no idea how well this works because I probably won't use it.
Dense bristles = lots of volume?

July's glam bag: yay or nay? Well even though I'm not over the moon about anything, I can still use three out of the five items so I guess that's a yay? I should really stop hoarding hair serums and nail polishes though (in fact I think I already have a really similar color) but I. can't. help. it. Does that make it an addiction? :D

If you haven't subscribed to Ipsy before and you have a few bucks lying around, I really recommend trying it out. At least for a couple months to see if you like it. Click here to sign up. It's just $10 a month which makes it one of the most affordable beauty subscriptions out there.

3B Box Review - July 2016

What: The 3B Box (short for Beyond Beauty Borders) contains 4-5 deluxe or full-sized beauty samples from Korea, Japan, or Taiwan
When: Ships during the first week of each month
Cost: $12 per month (free shipping!)

Raise your hand if you're enjoying the summer! *raises both hands* I've been enjoying it so much that I completely forgot to throw up box reviews on here. Okay I admit it's not all fun and games. Work has been crazy busy too and this is the first time in over a week that I could spare a moment to jump online. :(

3B Box ships around the second week in the month and usually gets to me within a couple of days. I mentioned this before and I'll mention it again - I'm sooo glad that they improved their shipping packaging. They used to use a flimsy box that would always open on the corners so that your stuff could fall out at any moment. They've since switched to a sturdier box with a closing flap and no open corners. I mention this because this month had a couple of small roundish samples that could easily slip out of the inner bag and roll around in the box if jostled enough. Freeeeeedom! But not really. Because the box closes now. No more missing samples.

3W Clinic Intensive UV Sunblock Cream - I'm really bad about wearing sunscreen. So bad. I probably undo my entire nighttime skin routine by forgetting to use it everyday, sometimes even when I know I'll be out in the sun all day. I keep one in my tote bag just in case I forget to apply before leaving the house, but then I still forget to use it even when I'm already out. Errrr. I think I need to set a "put on sunblock" reminder on my phone.

Unt Aqua Nettoyant Perfect Balance Hydrating Cleanser - Something rose-scented had leaked all over the box when I opened it and turns out it was this. The scent is a bit strong for me but half of me still wants to try it. The high amino acid content (23%) in this cleanser is supposed to help your skin maintain its moisture balance. This sounds lovely but I don't care for rosy-scented things much. At least it's not heavily scented, it could be worse.

Etude House Pink Vital Water Emulsion - This is a light moisturizer ideal for people like me with oily/combo skin. I find that I prefer emulsions over regular moisturizers during the summer and fall months because it's just so hot and humid around here. Regular moisturizers just sit on my face and hours later my skin is still tacky. Hopefully this is light enough to absorb quickly. The only thing is I hate the dispensing method of this bottle - the emulsion is too thick to flow out freely from the bottle opening yet the bottle itself is too rigid to squeeze the product out so you end up with red palms from whacking it against your hand. o_O

Tonymoly Kiss Kiss Lovely Lip Patch - I saved the cutest (and most fun) thing for last. It's a lip patch to keep your lips plump and hydrated. I've got a couple of these lip patch thingies lying around my house but never got around to trying them. From what I hear the best part about them is the ridiculous selfies you can take while wearing it. My favorite part is the cute little chicky.

This month's bag had some pretty good summer finds, but I think I'm most excited about the emulsion. It's the only thing I'm sure I'll use, although that sunscreen should also be a keeper. If you like to get fun things like huge lip patches in the mail, you should pick up a subscription. You can do that hereAnd for $12/month including shipping, it's one of the most affordable Asian beauty boxes out there.

Ipsy Review - June 2016

What: Ipsy Glam Bag contains 5 deluxe samples and full sized beauty products (mostly makeup) in an exclusive makeup bag.
When: Glam Bags ship monthly on the 10th
Cost: $10/month (free shipping)
Fun Extra: You can review your products each month to earn ipsyPoints which can be redeemed for bonus items.

Summer's in full swing and Ipsy wants us to be rebels. Non-conforming, edgy, badass rebels. June's graffiti-covered makeup bag might help to make you feel a little rebellious:

ClariSEA  Deep Pore Detox Activated Charcoal Exfoliating Mask (1 oz value: $4.50)- I will never say no to charcoal and clay masks. This mask contains activated bamboo charcoal and kaolin clay, plus powdered salt crystals for exfoliation. It can also be used as a cleanser - just mix it with your regular cleanser and voila - instant cleansing clay. Just be careful not to create too much air current as the consistency is super fine.

theBalm Meet Matt(e) Trimony - in Matt Kumar (single pan value: $4) - Unlike the Meet Matt(e) Nude shades, the Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette is theBalm's special occasion matte eye shadows. According to Ipsy, Matt Kumar is a matte cranberry color but I think it looks more like brick red. I have no idea how they come up with these names, but whoever Matt Kumar is, he's a lucky guy for getting to be part of so many girls' morning routines. I didn't think the color payoff was too intense, but it's buildable and three swipes looks like this:
Three swipes of theBalm's Meet Matt(e) Trimony eye shadow in Matt Kumar
Mirabella Magic Marker Eyeliner (1.8g full size value: $25) - I'm not very skilled when it comes to liquid eyeliner and my hand is far from steady. I was that kid who kept losing in Jenga. Always. I do love the packaging, though. Anything shiny or gray/gunmetal grabs my attention. But as far as using it, I think I'm going to stay in my pencil comfort bubble.

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush - Peach Pink (0.10oz value: $11) - Apologizes for my subpar picture-taking skills - this blush is more pink and less peach in real life. It's creamy and long-wearing to last all day. There's even a bit of sparkle in there to really get glowing. Me and sparkly face makeup don't really get along too well so maybe I can use this as an eye shadow?

Royal & Langnickel Crease/Smudge Brush (Value: ~$7) - The first thing I noticed about this brush is the rubber coating on the handle. Not that I have an ongoing problem with brushes slipping out of my hand otherwise, but it's a nice touch nonetheless. Plus it's my first blue brush. I love blue.

This month's bag was alright. Nothing blew me away but at least I got my money's worth out of the clay mask, eye shadow and brush. I'm not too sure what's so rebellious about these normal-looking makeup colors, though. On the bright side, I'm glad they didn't send me green or yellow makeup. I wouldn't know where to begin if I found those in my bag.

Click here to sign up for Ipsy. It's just $10 a month which makes it one of the most affordable beauty subscriptions out there. Each bag's value far exceeds the price point and although you might not love everything each month, there's almost always something you'll like. In fact, it's been a couple years since I've actually gone out and bought makeup. Ipsy does that for me :)

Pooch Perks Review - June 2016

What: Pooch Perks is a subscription box for dogs filled with 2-6 treat, toy, and hygiene items. There are four subscription tiers; boxes within each tier are curated according to your dog's size.  You can also make special requests (heavy chewer option, allergy-conscious, box frequency changes) when you sign up. For reference, this review is on the Popular Pooch box (4-5 items) for a medium/large dog (35lbs+).
When: Ships monthly on your subscription renewal date
Cost: $20-$50 per month (shipping is free); ships anywhere in the US and US territories
Fun Fact: Want only treats or just toys? You can sign up for that for just $20/month! Also, $1 from each box goes to rescue groups. This month 's organization is Ralph's Place. Check out their page here.

The "Finding Dory" opening weekend was a huge success and it seems several subscription boxes want a piece of the action. I don't blame them - what's more summery than spending your days in the water? Pooch Perks knew our dogs would appreciate a Finding Dory-themed box of ocean fun. After all, don't most dogs love the water? (Well mines don't, but my dogs are quirky creatures)

CycleDog Ecolast 3-Play Turtle (Value: $15) - This cute rubber turtle has three times the fun - it floats, has a squeaky head, and features a treat-hiding belly. My anti-water dogs don't care if it floats or not, but they'll definitely have fun finding treats and getting a squeak or two while doing so.
Stuff treats in Mr. Turtle's busy belly!
Ruff Dawg Flying Fish (Value: $17) - If your dog loves to fetch while swimming, this is a great toy to have. It floats and the bright orange color is highly visible in the water. If you're not a huge fan of jumping in to retrieve toys when your dog "forgets" to bring it back, there's even a hole where you can attach a rope. No diving required.

Yummy Chummies Salmon Savory Strips (5oz value: $7) - My dogs are huge fans of salmon (probably because it's stinky) so these strips will be gone in a flash. I wish I could say that I'll never give fish to them ever again but it makes their coat so shiny that I just have to keeping buying it and just suck it up. :*( On the bright side these don't smell half as bad as salmon skin so I think I can deal.

The Real Meat Company Beach Bums Turkey, Pineapple and Coconut Treats (4oz value: $4) - Since when do dogs get to enjoy pina coladas??! These beach bums look like mini grilled gingerbread men. They're cute but there's only about 10 in the bag. I might have to start dismembering some if I want it to last more than a few days. Yes, my dogs are spoiled and get lots of treats :)

I thought this was a well curated box and I'm impressed that every item had something to do with the ocean. We might not get much use out of the fish toy, but everything else will be loved. In fact, the turtle is with Pebbles right this minute and she's having a helluva time figuring out how to get the treats out of that belly. Squeeze it girl, squeeeeeze it!!

Click here to sign up for Pooch Perks! Every month you'll get a box full of fun goodies for your dog. And I'm not kidding when I say full; two out of my three boxes didn't even close all the way because of all the stuff in there. And don't forget to use code FRIEND10 to get 10% off your first order with any subscription plan!!
