October 2017 Pooch Perks Dog Box Review

What: Pooch Perks is a subscription box for dogs containing 2-5 treats and toys. There are three subscription options: Sample Pooch (2 past items), Popular Pooch (4-5 toys & treats) and Custom Pooch (includes options for just treats, just toys, heavy chewer, or no grains). Boxes are also curated according to your dog's size.  If your dog has allergies you can also note that down when you sign up.
Note: If you signed up before February 2017, you're grandfathered into the previous subscription options. For reference, this review is for the older plan's allergy-conscious Popular Pooch box (4 items) for a medium-large dog (35+ lbs).
When: Choose between monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly deliveries
Cost: $12-$32 per box depending on which subscription option you choose (+$5 shipping/box); ships anywhere in the US and US territories

Pooch Perks recently underwent some management changes and because I'm grandfathered into an old pre-2017 subscription plan (for now) there were some mix-ups and shipping delays over the past couple of months. But they've got the nicest customer service people who took swift action and I think I'm all caught up now. October's box actually came just in time for Halloween so it's my fault this post is so late, but hey better late than never! :)

Healthy Dogma Spooky Pooch Bacon Recipe Treats ($8) - The thing I love about Healthy Dogma (other than the fact that their treats are all-natural) is the packaging. Every single bag I've seen has an adorable cartoon dog on it. This poor guy just saw a ghost but they normally aren't so scared-looking. The good news is that most dogs will be able to enjoy this treat as it doesn't contain common dog allergens; unfortunately Macho can't eat peas or potatoes (which is in pretty much in every single treat) so hopefully this can go to my in-laws' pup.
Healthy Dogma Bacon Recipe Treats

Patchwork Pet Ghost Plush Stick - Please excuse the fur, the dogs got to this before I had a chance to snap a photo. I woke up one morning to the sound of a tug of war game complete with an odd squeaking that I had never heard before. And lo and behold, this ghost stick was in the middle of it. Which dog climbed on the table and pulled it out of the box is still a mystery, but I have my suspicions *cough Pebbles*. It's not really a squeak, not quite a honk. I don't really know how to describe it but it made me laugh. I thought they'd rip this apart instantly but I was wrong. Way to go, Boo!

Puppy Scoops Ice Cream Mix in Maple Bacon ($7) - Since I subscribe to an allergy conscious box I expect some repeats form time to time. We got this a few Pooch Perks boxes ago but only now I finally got around to making this for the pups. I don't know why I waited to so long, all you have to do is add hot water and freeze. But they both loved it! Puppy Scoops is the ice cream line of Puppy Cake (if that name sounds familiar it's because its owner appeared on Shark Tank several years ago). And if you've ever heard of Puptato Chips, that's their chip line! My dogs loved them (before I knew about Macho's allergies) and all it is is 100% sweet potato! I can't believe my dogs eat way healthier than I do.

Patchwork Pet Frankenstein Plush - When I took this out of the box to inspect it for evidence of dog tampering, Pebbles instantly abandoned her game of tug of war with Mr. Ghost and went for Frankenstein. She's like a spoiled kid who only wants the latest and greatest things and forgets her old toys like yesterday's old PBJ sandwich. This plush is SO SOFT. Exactly the kind that Pebbles likes to lie down with and cuddle pick at until the stuffing comes out. Macho is a little gentler with his toys but Pebbles ends up stealing them from him anyway.

Charming Pet K9Tuff Halloween Topper Pumpkin ($14) - Can you believe it, A THIRD TOY??! Talk about Trick or Treat. This pumpkin's arms slide back and forth through his body for tug of war fun - no ripped appendages here! But the stuffing though. I'm not looking forward to cleaning up all. that. stuffing.

Dogs Love Kale Turkey-Sweet Potato Gobblers ($6) - Dogs Love Kale is another great brand that uses only healthy ingredients, but they also use peas or pea derivatives in all their treats which means this brand is a no-go for my sensitive pooch. But I do highly recommend this company if you want quality treats that will have your dog begging for more.

Verdict: I'm a little sad that I won't be able to give Macho two of the three treats in here, but I don't think he'll mind as long as he gets to play with all three of those toys. The ghost and Frankenstein are faring well so far as long as I continue to take them away from Pebbles before she gets a chance to locate the squeakers. But once those are de-squeaked and de-stuffed at least there's still the pumpkin. Macho's weird allergies aside, overall I thought this was a very cute, well thought out Halloween box with a hint of Thanksgiving thrown in in the form of those Gobblers. What's even better is that all of the treats in here are all-natural. I swear, my dogs eat healthier than I do!

October 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

First off, I apologize for all of my late posts the past few months - I've recently discovered how ill-prepared I am for this baby and have been running around like a chicken with no head hounding friends for insider tips and tying up loose ends at work before going on maternity leave. But better late than never, no? So without further ado, here's what came in October's (*sigh* last month's) Ipsy glam bag:

What: Ipsy Glam Bag contains 5 deluxe samples and full sized beauty products in an exclusive makeup bag.
When: Glam Bags ship monthly on the 10th
Cost: $10/month (free shipping within the US)
Fun Extras: You can review your products each month to earn points which can be redeemed for bonus items. You can also purchase the products you love straight from the Ipsy website.

Skinvolve Phoenician Secret Scrub - Peppermint - I'm not very big into drinking coffee, but I'm willing to see what this coffee scrub is all about. It can supposedly fade stretch marks, decrease cellulite and help alleviate eczema and rosacea. There's also crushed mint leaves in here to leave you feeling refreshed.

Luna Elara Lip Crayon - This highly pigmented, creamy lip crayon is perfect for any skin tone. I can never have enough lip products (especially subtle pinks and neutrals) so this is going straight in my bag. Plus this is a nice full size lipstick which means it won't get lost in my whirlwind of a purse!

Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer - Light - Eyelid primers are one of those things that I always have on hand but always forget to use and then kick myself in the shin when my shadow ends up making my cheeks look like a unicorn kissed them. So will having another one make me remember to use it? Probably not, but it's nice to know I can hold off the unicorns a bit longer as long as I remember to use this thing.

Tonymoly Peach Hand Cream - This is my favorite scented hand cream ever. I bought the full size version of this from my local Tonymoly store and used it everyday because it smelled divine. As far as effectiveness goes it wasn't the best but it keeps your skin soft between hand washings. But a word of warning - you won't stop sniffng your hands. Forreal.

Pretty Woman NYC Nail Medic Charcoal Infused Nail Polish in Lava - When it comes to nail polish, I have an unhealthy assortment of blues and pinks but only a couple of grays so I'm so excited to get one from Ipsy. This is a light lavender-gray creme that matches pretty much any color or design. It'll be perfect for the upcoming winter season.

Verdict:  Lately Ipsy has been on point when it comes to curating my glam bags. So fill out those beauty profiles and review your items, folks. It really does make a difference! I'm really happy with October's bag (again, probably because they actually took the time to match items to my profile) and could definitely get some use out of everything in it...ESPECIALLY THE HAND CREAM Y

Sign up here to subscribe to Ipsy. Each month you'll get five items for a mere $10 (I've always gotten at least one full size item each month) inside an exclusive makeup bag along with access to tons of online coupons from the featured brands as well as discounted prices via the Ipsy website.

October 2017 PLAY! by Sephora Review

What: PLAY! by Sephora contains 5-6 deluxe samples of beauty products in a stylish drawstring bag. Curations are based on your beauty profile so what you get may differ from other subscribers.
When: Glam Bags ship monthly on the 20th
Cost: $10/month + tax (ships anywhere within the US)
Fun Extras: With your subscription you'll also get access to how-to videos and tutorials for everything in your bag. Bonus: Each month you'll also get a Play Pass worth 50 points when you redeem it in-store with any full-sized purchase.

It's my second month of getting Sephora Play and so far so good. October's theme is about perfecting your complexion. Included with this month's goodies were tips on achieving perfect skin - hydration, a killer skincare routine, and of course makeup.

Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water - Cleansing micellar water contains tiny oil molecules that attract oil impurities, so it's like a mild makeup remover, face wash and moisturizer all rolled into one product. It contains HydroSenn+, Sephora's trademark plant-derived ingredient that delivers immediate and long-lasting hydration to skin.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum - If you're looking for something potent to fight dullness and dark spots while also brightening your skin, look no further. This serum is infused with THD ascorbate (a stable, lipid-soluble form of vitamin C) to offset oxidative damage that can otherwise result in the degradation of collagen and elastin.

Urban Decay Quick Fix Hydracharged Complexion Prep Priming Spray - The coconut water in this priming spray provides skin with a moisture boost prior to applying makeup and anytime throughout the day. Just spritz some on whenever your skin starts to look dull and in need of a pick-me-up. Plus it smells like coconuts...mmmmmm.

Gucci Bloom Eau de Parfum for Her - Do you like florals? Then try this; the name says it all. Aptly named Bloom, this perfume has notes of jasmine and tuberose with a hint of rangoon creeper. Fun fact: rangoon creeper is a tropical plant with white flowers that turn pink and then red when it blooms. Sounds pretty - I need to get me one of these plants!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Concealer in Medium - Bye Bye Under Eye is a full coverage concealer designed to even out skin tone and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but I'm curious to see how well it'll hide scars and blemishes. I've been having some yucky pregnancy acne that leaves behind lingering scars - yup, my first pregnancy acne scar (and each one after that) is still here four months later! Surprisingly, the best concealer I've found so far has been a drugstore brand, but it won't hurt to see how this one compares.

Make Up For Ever in Y335-Dark Sand - Kudos to Sephora for color matching! Out of 40 possible shades, this is the one I would have picked out for myself. Plus it's in a multi-use bottle (with pump!). This is a buildable lightweight foundation with a seamless application so your face won't look cakey. I love no-makeup makeup.

Click here to subscribe to Play by Sephora for $10 a month. You'll get a drawstring bag packed with deluxe samples of makeup and cosmetics to try before buying. And if you do end up loving it you can purchase the full size straight from your account. How convenient!
